United Soccer Coaches, an organization that serves all levels of soccer in the U.S., announced that Arizona’s Lainey Burdett was voted to the Scholar All-West Region second team on Tuesday evening with a GPA of 3.4 as a marketing major. This is the first time Burdett has earned Scholar All-West Region honors (formerly All-Pacific Region). The honor is given to student-athletes based on a balance of GPA and performance on the pitch.

Burdett played in every game for the Wildcats this season, earning a goals-against-average mark of 0.81. She made 85 saves on the season and tallied seven shutouts, the third-best mark by an Arizona goalkeeper. Burdett has one year of eligibility left with the Wildcats to become one of the most decorated goalkeepers in the program’s history.

The Wildcats’ keeper also earned All-Pac-12 Second Team honors earlier this season, as well as was given a 2017 Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention. She helped lead the team as they hosted the first round of the NCAA Tournament and defeated TCU’s Horned Frogs. Burdett’s standout game this season came as she made 11 saves against the NCAA 2017 Champion Stanford Cardinal.
