El Rio Theatre Project presents: ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’

By SoAzNewsX

The El Rio Theatre Project presents its 11th annual Shakespeare in the Park, featuring William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer  Night’s Dream” at the Himmel Park Outdoor Amphitheatre, 1000 N. Tucson Blvd. This play is widely recognized as a comic masterpiece and one of Shakespeare’s most popular works. It has inspired numerous adaptations, including Felix Mendelssohn’s acclaimed musical score for a nineteenth-century production.

Written about 1595, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is considered Shakespeare’s first mature comedy. It consists of four interconnecting plots portraying the events surrounding the marriage of Theseus, the Duke of Athens, to Hippolyta, the former queen of the Amazons. These include the adventures of four Athenian lovers and a group of six amateur actors who are  controlled by the fairies who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set.

Bring a blanket, a picnic basket, and the whole family, and enjoy an evening of theatre in the park. For additional information call 837-4353 or visit our Facebook page at: Tucson’s Shakespeare in the Park.

The production will be presented Sept. 15-17, 21-24 & 28-Oct. 1 at 7 p.m at Himmel Park Outdoor Amphitheatre, 1000 N. Tucson Blvd.
