Mexican shoppers boost So. Ariz. economy

BUT WAIT! Aren’t they supposed to be boycotting us over Trump?????

MEXICAN SHOPPERS CONVERGE IN TUCSON – Southern Arizona retailers are expected to enjoy a boost in sales for a second straight week, as shoppers from Mexico take advantage of their spring break that can last up to two weeks. Semana Santa, or Holy Week, takes place from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. Businesses in Mexico celebrate by giving employees a four-day weekend, while Mexican primary schools give their students two weeks off. Tucson tourism officials say Mexicans spend a lot of that time shopping in Tucson. The Mexican peso, which recently appreciated against the U.S. dollar, is good news for Tucson retailers, as it gives Mexican tourists more purchasing power. A dollar is now worth about 18 pesos, coming off an exchange rate that reached nearly 22 pesos to a dollar in January. Economists estimate 30 percent of Tucson’s retail sales are to Mexican shoppers.
