Talya Zandberg has signed a financial aid agreement and is cleared to play tennis for the University of Arizona in January.
“We are very excited to add Talya to our spring roster,” said head coach Vicky Maes. “She was wonderful throughout the entire recruiting process and we couldn’t be happier to bring her into our Wildcat family. Not only are we adding a high level tennis player, but we are also gaining a quality individual. Talya is a tough competitor and will make an immediate impact on the team. Her extensive experience on the court as well as her training in the Israeli army will bring extra maturity to the group, something we can all value going through the season.”
Sandberg, who is from Israel, will be eligible to compete for the Wildcats starting in January of 2018. She is currently ranked No. 1212 in WTA Singles, and No. 795 in WTA Doubles, both of which are career highs. She has been ranked as high as No. 186 in the ITF rankings. In Akko, Israel in 2014, she won a $10k doubles contest.
“I chose the University of Arizona because during my visit I felt at home and had a great connection with the team,” said Sandberg. “I believe that this program can help me in becoming a better player and a better person.”
